Neely Young papers, 1948-2008

This collection contains photographs, newspaper clippings, magazines, correspondence, a DVD of Neely Young's Young Family History presentation at the Polk County Historical Society (39 min), November 27, 2007 and a CD-R disc containing several formats of digital files: .wps; .123; .xls; .doc; .jpg; ,pdf; .html; .wk4; .rtf; .mhtml; .wks; .invc; .bak; .txt; .dat; .tmp; .gif; and .css. The content of the digital files includes articles, personal and professional emails, tax information and newspaper finances. These documents predominately relate to Neely Young's professional career as a publisher and journalist. The newspaper and magazine clippings are either opinion pieces or columns written by Young, or columns and articles which are about or mention Young in both a professional and social aspect. There is some correspondence between Young and fellow publishers, as well as readers, including Newt Gingrich. Included in the collection are photographs of Young at professional and business events, personal photographs and photographs of genealogical significance. Two boxes contain exclusively issues of Georgia Trend from 1999-2007. There are four binders in the collection, two of which contain photocopies of genealogical documents on Young's maternal and paternal lineage; one of which contains the 1995-1996 Clayton County Rotary Club's President's Report, and one of which contains photocopies Young's column for The Daily Citizen-News from 1983. There are financial and legal documents regarding the estate of James Young, father of Neely Young.
